BERLIN (The East-West Writer)—A Berlin professor of Stalinist violence and terror warns about the perils of Western political correctness and media dictatorship.
In an article in Basler Zeitung, Switzerland, historian Jörg Baberowski writes that “many journalists consider themselves to be the actual politicians.”
He explains: “The domination of the political correct has only become possible through the information monopoly of the leading media.” [The same leading media, by the way, that are now calling for the censorship of the ordinary citizens on social media networks.] The regime media’s demand for a crackdown on so-called ‘fake news’ is precisely “the demand of those who see their definition power challenged,” the professor argues.
Those self-aggrandizing journalists will naturally go to great length and protect their “power over definitions,” the academic continues: “In the style of popular enlightenment, they share what is to be believed and what is to be despised. To this end, they prepare any message in such a way that it fits into their Weltanschauung.”
Jörg Baberowski is a professor at Humboldt University in Berlin.
